Canadian International School (Tokyo)

The Canadian International School in Tokyo (CIS, カナディアン・インターナショナル・スクール) is a Canadian curriculum international school in Kitashinagawa, Shinagawa, Tokyo.〔"(Access )." Canadian International School in Tokyo. Retrieved on October 29, 2014. "〒141-0001 5-8-20, Kitashinagawa, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo"〕
It was founded in 2000 with 50 students, and has grown over the years to its current student population of 270. CIS is accredited by the Department of Education of the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island (PEI) whose curriculum is used throughout the school. CIS offers pre-Kindergarten to grade 12, with students graduating and going on to attend universities in Canada, the United States and Japan, as well as countries in Europe. Just under 50% of CIS students are Japanese, with the remainder coming from Korea, France, Italy, Sweden, Brazil, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. CIS is an IB World School in kindergarten to grade 5; students in grades 6 to 12 use the PEI curriculum supplemented by a variety of Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Teachers are predominantly Canadian, with a few Australian, US and British nationals among their number. In addition to a full academic programme, the curriculum includes music, PE, art and Japanese language at all grade levels. CIS has a strong language support programme for students whose English language skills are below grade level.
In addition to PEI accreditation, CIS is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), and is a member of the Japan Council of International Schools and the East Asia Regional Council of Overseas Schools (EARCOS).
